The office of Veterans Affairs continues its outreach and engagement campaign called, “VA Summer of Service.” This program aims to sustain, recognize and encourage volunteerism in support of America’s Veterans and their families as a way to give back to those who have served. Military members and their families have made countless sacrifices for our safety and freedom. It’s time to give back.
Local colleges are taking heed of this challenge and working with their student populations to get involved with the summer of service. In Hampton Roads, Vet Success on Campus (VSOC) counselors at Tidewater Community College are collecting items for homeless Veterans through the Volunteer Services department of the Hampton VA Medical Center.
Whether you’re interested in helping out at a VA hospital or helping organize welcome home events for returning military members and their families, there’s something for everyone. The VA relies on volunteers for events and support of military members. If you cannot donate your time, the VA also accepts donations towards military members and their families.
You can find out more about the campaign and sign up to volunteer on the VA Summer of Service website.
